Scott Mead Brief Biography
Scott Mead is an experienced investment banker based out of London. He is a founding Partner of Richmond Park Partners, an independent merchant bank that offers services ranging from capital markets, advisory and risk and asset management. Previously, Scott Mead was Partner and Managing Director at Goldman Sachs. Mead is also an avid athlete, philanthropist and photographer.
Educational Background and Accomplishments
Scott Mead was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He studied at Harvard College where he graduated with honors and received his B.A. in American History and Literature. During his studies, he excelled at sports (three-time National Champion for lacrosse and squash) and journalism (wrote for the The Harvard Advocate). Upon graduation, he received the Harvard Scholar to Cambridge University, which is awarded each year to one student from the entire Harvard graduating class. He later received his MPhil from Emmanuel College at Cambridge University, and his law degree (JD) from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1982.
Professional Growth and Success at Goldman Sachs & Company
Upon completing his studies, Scott Mead moved to New York and began working for the First Boston Corporation, an investment bank. Refining his business skills and gaining extensive and global financial experience over time, Scott Mead next became a Partner and Managing Director of Goldman Sachs & Company in 1986. In 1988, he relocated to the London branch of Goldman Sachs where later he would experience one of his most well-publicized accomplishments: Leading the team on the nearly $200 billion acquisition of Mannesmann (German communications) by Vodafone. This acquisition has been noted not only for its large sum, but also for its challenging complexity. During his time at the company, Scott Mead established an impressive track record for successful multi-billion dollar investment banking efforts that involved participants from the US, Europe and Asia.
Founding Partner at Richmond Park Partners
After Goldman Sachs, Scott Mead acted as a Senior Advisor to Apax Partners, as well as Chairman of the Technology and Telecommunications Advisory Board. Later, Scott Mead joined two other seasoned business professionals, Werner Grub and Andrew Pisker, to found Richmond Park Partners in 2009. Based in London, Richmond Park Partners specializes in two main business areas: advisory and asset management. As a founding Partner, Scott Mead has been central in the establishment and growth of the financial services advisory firm. The firm believes in a “hands-on” approach with its clients, and the Partners are actively involved with each assignment and investment. Richmond Park Partners’ holding company is currently in the process of acquiring Olympia Group from Sagard Private Equity Partners. Once the transaction is completed, more than $2 billion worth of assets, including private monies as well as hedge funds, will be transferred to the asset management division at Richmond Park Partners; strengthening RPP’s position in the European market. Currently, Olympia Group works out of offices in international cities such as New York, Paris and London.
Philanthropist, Photographer and Athlete
In addition to his many professional accomplishments, Scott Mead also spends his time on activities that involve philanthropy, the arts and fitness. Among the numerous organizations and foundations of which he is an active member, Mead is also the Founder and Chairman of the Mead Family Foundation, a grant and donation program which supports educational opportunities, medical research and the arts. As an active board member of the New Look Foundation, Scott Mead encourages young people to develop their leadership skills. New Look Foundation provides leadership training programs that teach young people skills for succeeding in all areas of life. The New Look training model aims to develop the youth’s potential through education, civic involvement, business experience. The short-term and long-term programs provided by the foundation give young people numerous opportunities to gain experience and improve their skills in these areas. His interests also include photography in which he participates in exhibitions from time to time. Recently, one of his large format digital prints entitled "Choices" earned a prominent place in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, which opened at Burlington House on June 4. Spectators commented that his print made them stop and think about their life choices and their consequences. It is a commanding piece, hung at eye level, and attracts the attention of gallery visitors as they enter the room. The show is the largest contemporary art show with an open submission policy in the world, and has now been running for 244 years. The 11,000 entries to the show cover every type of media, including painting and printmaking. The print submitted by Scott Mead is on sale for 7,500 pound, with all proceeds being donated to the Great Ormond Street Hospital as a thank you to them for saving the life of his son as an infant. Lastly, Scott Mead is also a dedicated marathon-runner. To date he has completed the London and New York Marathons and is planning to complete a marathon on every continent for charity.
